Irene Apanovitch - Children's Choir conductor

Irene Apanovitch Irene began to study piano in Belarus at the age of six. She currently holds a Honors Bachelor Degree in Music Education from the Faculty of Music, University of Toronto. During her Undergraduate degree, she has been a recipient of numerous awards, including the Lloyd Bradshaw Scholarship in Choral Conducting. Irene currently conducts the University Settlement Children's Chorus. She is a dedicated pedagogue and has been teaching piano, voice, and music appreciation classes at various organizations. She is a strong advocate for music education through the art of choral singing.

RON KA MING CHEUNG - MUSIC THEORY, HISTORY OF MUSIC, VOICE, CHOIR, CONDUCTING

RON KA MING CHEUNG - Music Theory, Choir Ron has degrees in Choral Conducting and Music Education from University of Toronto and McMaster University in Hamilton. Ron is a founder and an artistic director of "Healey Willan Singers", and a music director at The Xiao Ping Chorus. He has over fifteen years of conducting experience. In the past he also directed "Annex Singers of Toronto". Ron won scholarships at the Kiwanis Music Festival in 1999, 2000, and 2004 his chamber choir "Voices". Also he has been teaching voice, theory and history at various organizations and schools since 1990.

ROBYN CHO - CLARINET, SAXOPHONE

RON KA MING CHEUNG - Music Theory, Choir Praised by many artists for his unique and poetic musicianship, Robyn Cho is a versatile clarinetist. He received his Artist Diploma from the Glenn Gould School of The Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto. He is first prize winner of the Mooredale Concerto Competition 2007 and plays regularly in orchestras such as the Canadian Opera Company and the Toronto Sinfonietta. Robyn is a recipient of numerous scholarships He has participated in the Aspen Music Festival where he was principal clarinet of the Aspen Sinfonia and co-principal of the Festival Orchestra. He has been coached by some of the finest artists such as David Shifrin, Marc Durand, Franklin Cohen, Eli Eban, Burt Hara, Theodore Oien, Dennis Smylie, and Yizhak Schotten. As soloist and chamber musician, he has performed with The Royal Conservatory Orchestra under the baton of Uri Mayer and the Tokai String Quartet.

VALERIE GORDON -VIOLIN

Valerie Gordon holds Bachelor degree from McGill University and is now completing her Music Artist's Diploma at the Glenn Gould School in Toronto. She has an impressive list of preformances with different orchestras across Canada and United States and generously shares her love for music with her students. Valerie has number of awards and special accomplishments and has been teaching violin since 2002.

KATERINA GAIDAMAKA - PIANO

Natalie Radzinski - Piano Katerina Gaidamaka has achieved a number of awards participating in many piano competitions as a young performer. She received First Class Honours at the Royal Conservatory of Music, ARCT and is completing her Bachelor degree at the University of Toronto with Music and Human Biology majors. She teaches piano, pre-school music program and very popular group keyboard classes.

MICK GRAD - GUITAR

Mick Grad - Guitar After being graduated from Glinka Academy of Music and receiving teachers choice award, Mick Grad, in his 30-year career established himself as one of the most prolific and distinctive musician-composer-band leader of his time. He worked in almost every musical genre and wrote music for rock bands, jazz, flamenco and classical ensembles. Mick experimented with guitar sound at recording sessions leading his music band Domino that encompassed composing, recording and touring in many places around Europe. Mick successfully released and produced several music albums including "Crow" 1995, received many music awards, and won variety of music competitions. These days he composes and performs in Toronto with tango-rock music band "Tangomania". Mick's teaching experience includes most prestigious music schools around Ontario.

HELENA HOLL - SOPRANO

Helena HollHelena Holl Helena Holl began her vocal studies at Moscow’s Gnesins Musical Academy, after which she was accepted into a private class of Boris Pokrovsky, of the prestigious Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow.
Following completion of her studies, Ms. Holl performed in numerous productions with the Moscow Operetta Theatre, and the Moscow Stanislavsky Opera and Ballet Theatre. After moving from Moscow to Budapest, Ms. Holl performed with Interoperett Ltd., sang at the Xanten Arena Theatre in Germany and the Bromberg “Opera Nova” Theatre in Poland. Strausse’s The Gypsy Baron and Sonya of Lehar’s operetta Tsarevitch have been performed during tours across Germany, France, Austria, Holland and Switzerland.
Ms. Holl made her North American debut in Gala Benefit Concert at the Ford Centre for the Performing Arts in Toronto. She sung for the performances of the “Salute to Vienna” Concert Series where she appeared with Jerry Hadley. Ms. Holl had a great success at the Orpheum Theatre in Vancouver and at the Boettcher Concert Hall in Denver. She performed in concerts at the Arlene Schnitzer Hall in Portland, Oregon, the Cerritos Centre in Los Angeles, the Copley Symphony Hall in San Diego and the Chrysler Theatre in Windsor with the Windsor Symphony Orchestra. She sang Tatiana in Yevgeny Onegin at CBC Glenn Gould Studio.

PAVEL MARKELOV - CLARINET, PIANO, SAXOPHONE, MUSIC THEORY

Pavel Markelov Pavel Markelov has a PhD degree from Moscow State Conservatory in clarinet performance. He is a first-prize clarinet winner at Russian National Competition. For numerous years he taught clarinet, piano, theory and saxophone at various music schools in Russia, accompanied and conducted symphony orchestras. Pavel also has an experience working in a music editing industry, arranging rarely performed music for clarinet.

RITA MOVSESSIAN - PIANO

Rita MovsessianRita Movsessian

Pianist-Composer, Rita Movsessian, has been hailed as a "virtuoso" with "intense musicality" who is "captivating to watch… a performer who takes control of the music and justly conveys its intent!"

Proving herself as a musical prodigy from a very young age, Rita quickly progressed through her early piano lessons, devouring repertoire and winning numerous competitions. By the time she was fifteen, Rita had been making yearly appearances for DCTV, which aired her performances within Vancouver, BC. Her first musical tour took her to Europe and the Mediterranean where she performed to much acclaim.

Rita achieved her Bachelor's of Music from the University of British Columbia, and full scholarship to her Master's of Music in Performance and Pedagogy degree at the Glenn Gould Professional School in Toronto. As a result, Rita has been fortunate to study intensely with some of the greatest teachers in North America, including Terrence Dawson, Kenneth Broadway, Ralph Markham, and Marietta Orlov.

Positions as principle pianist for the UBC Symphonic Winds, and first soprano for the UBC Choral Union, garnered her regular performances at the Chan Centre for the Performing Arts, as well as frequent broadcasts on CBC Radio. Other engagements included a performance in the welcoming ceremony for Queen Elizabeth II, performances on Ryndam cruise lines to Alaska, a position within the Vancouver-based Nocturna Quartet, and an invitation to perform at the Vancouver Academy of Music to commemorate the centenary of Aram Khachaturian.

Joaquin Nunez - Percussion Instruments

Joaquin Nunez Hidalgo was born and raised in Cuba. As a professional, Joaquin had a successful music career in Cuba. Settling in Canada in 1999, Joaquin began performing with various renowned artists in Canada and internationally such as Jane Bunnet, Bill King, Hilario Duran. Joaquin also brings his experiences to the classroom by offering clinics and workshops in the GTA. As a master percussionist, Joaquin has worked closely with other great artists and has organized cultural retreats abroad. Joaquin has produced shows highlighting the most elite Cuban musicians such as the "Rumberos Afro_Cuban Master Sessions" and the Toronto Cuban Night at the Distillery Jazz Festival. Most recently, Joaquin was percussionist in the Mirvish musical production of "Dirty Dancing" in Toronto. For more information please visit www.rumberos.ca.

GRAHAM PORTER - GUITAR, PIANO, COMPOSITION

Graham Porter

Graham Porter is a Canadian composer, conductor and performer and teacher. He lives in Toronto, Canada.

Graham began playing piano at age 9, studying the Suzuki Method, which focuses on ear training and fostering a deep love of music. He later studied piano and theory through the Royal Conservatory of Music, then composition and conducting at Simon Fraser University, while acquiring skills in guitar, bass guitar and voice. Graham works in a variety of styles, from chamber to pop to electroacoustic, as well as accompaniments for theatre and dance.

Recent projects include live soundtracks for the theatre productions FOE and Tragic Eccentrics (for the draft89 collective) as well as performances for the Muskoka Jazz Vespers series (vocals and guitar).

QUYEN RACELES - VOCAL, CHILDREN'S and ADULT CHOIRS, DRAMA

Quyen Raceles holds a B. Mus. And B. Ed. from the University of Manitoba, has completed Orff Level I, and is a member of ACTRA and the Canadian Actors' Equity Association. Quyen has performed leading and supporting roles in many musical productions.

An experienced teacher now, Quyen continues to pass on everything she has learned and delights in being a part of sharing the joy of music. Quyen taught for the Winnipeg School Division for 3 years, taught musical theatre classes for Rising Star Dance Academy and Monica's Danz Gym, and private voice and piano lessons with Kolt Music School, Miller's School of Music, the University of Manitoba Preparatory Studies Division as well as her own private home studio. Her latest musical adventure includes volunteering with Surrey Place, a centre for people with developmental disabilities. She is proud to say that she has the grandest time helping out with the Symphonic Passion Choir, directed by Bruce Edwards and Christine Hein, and that she cherishes the new things that she is learning by simply helping out with this choir.

Music's live spirit pushes Quyen to teach and learn as much as she can, teaching people of all ages and abilities, and continuing to follow in the footsteps of her teachers who have encouraged her to always make music and the arts a part of her life.

 

ADRIAN SHAW - TRUMPET, PIANO

Adrian Show - Trumpet Adrian has his Bachelor of Music from Victorian College of Arts, Australia, where he majored in Trumpet. He has played trumpet and piano as a freelance musician for 10 years, recorded on 20 albums so far, and played live with many bands from Soul and African Music to Pop and Jazz including live in concert with Cyndi Lauper. He has been teaching trumpet, piano and trombone since 1998. Adrian has been teaching all levels: beginners, intermediates and advanced and experienced with Pop, Jazz, Soul, Blues and Latin musical styles.

Stanislav Vitort - VOCAL

Stas Vitort - Vocal Stas Vitort received his Diploma of Master of Music Arts from one of the most prestigious institutions Tchaikovsky State Conservatory in Moscow. His professional career includes performances on the stage of the Moscow Opera Theatre and Moscow Theatre 'Na Taganke', he was a leading performer in goodwill concerts for AIDS relief 'We Will Rock You' with members of the international rock band Queen and participated in Montreal Jazz festival as a member of Toronto based group 'Smooth Jazz'. Stas teaches at a high professional level combined with gentle manners and a good sence of humor.
